On February 4th I had a baby.
On February 3rd I took Liam on an adventure.
He was begging me to do something fun, to go on a train ride.
I decided that I could muscle through the pain of walking to take my sweet, patient, antsy three-year-old to do something fun. He'd been putting up with a very pregnant boring mom for a long time.
We went on the train to Gardner Village. I thought we could go feed the ducks all my old bread and then we could get back on the train and head downtown so he could play on the dinosaur playground at City Creek. It would be a grand adventure.
We got to Gardner Village and walked to the duck pond. I carefully parked my stroller and put the brakes on and we walked down to a little bench and started to feed the ducks. They were viciously hungry and very excited to eat our bread. All of a sudden they all took off and flew away and down the pond.
Thats when I saw it. My stroller. Bumping down the hill. Into the duck pond. For a split second it teetered on the edge of the water. I thought it just might land back on the ground. It wasn't to be so. It slowly tipped, chair first, right into the pond. I yelled "seriously???" and then waddled my 9 month pregnant self as fast as I could down the hill to rescue my diaper bag before it was sucked into the muck. I made it back to the top of the hill and returned to Liam who didn't really seem to notice that anything had happened. I fought off tears as I sat down. Then I noticed my train tickets, which I'd only purchased 30 minutes earlier and were still good for another 2 hours, floating away in the duck pond. Liam looked at me and said, "when are the ducks coming back?".
We successfully found the ducks and fed them without anymore incident. Then we got candy. Well Liam got some candy, I ate my grief away with fudge.
We then returned home on the train, this time Liam walked while I pushed the swampy smelling stroller.
And I had one happy little boy.

suspiciously quiet...
You know how people always say that they know their kids are up to no good when they can't hear them any more? Well... I don't really have that problem yet but today I had little man on the ground crawling around in my craft room. He had been crying to try to get me to pick him up but suddenly he stopped and started making these little noises with his mout shut. It hit me: I dropped some m&m's on the ground yesterday! I look down to pick them up and they are gond. I look over to baby and he has chocolate dripping down his face. Ah. That kid. Makes me smile.
| "I see you!" |
Oh that smile! He has just recently started wrinkling his nose when he smiles and I LOVE IT!! Anyway, maybe you can see the chocolate smears running down his face. I can't even imagine my life with out this little boy. What a blessing he is.
*sorry they are so blurry, my camera isn't very good and, well, babies don't sit still...

in it for the food
Once upon a time, back when I was wild and free, I went on a date with a young man. I was "dating" another fellow, but he was at work and I was off and an offer was made I just couldn't refuse. I accepted the date in front of poor "boyfriend" and didn't even feel bad. (I should have known that one wouldn't work out...) I was only in it for the food. He wanted to take me to The Melting Pot. I'd never been there and it sounded like fun. So off we went.
We drove downtown chatting, him about "how much he missed his girlfriend" (she was visiting family in Idaho) and me about the songs on the radio... no thoughts of poor working boyfriend on my mind. We got to our destination and were seated at our two person table. One side a bench seat, the other a chair. I sat on the bench and he asked if he could sit by me. On my one person bench. I reluctantly said yes and down he plopped. I say plopped because he was a little bigger and there is no way to gracefully wedge yourself in between a table and then sit.
So we order, or rather he told me what was good and ordered for us, and went on with the dinner date. He would occasionally mention how he likes to spend money on people and other nonsense and then he threw in how he "missed his girlfriend" and how much he liked "spending money on her" and how "he really missed cuddling with her" and then shot me a meaningful look. The look. I politely said "Not happening." We kept eating. I had placed my hand down by my leg for some reason when he ever so smoothly did the same. On my hand. Blech. He said "your hands are really soft." "Thanks, I use lotion," move hand away... Oh dear. So finally dinner was over and he said, "You know, desert here is really good..." good grief "No thanks, I'm really full" was my reply. Finally we leave. I think the dinner bill was somewhere around 70 dollars. Like I said, just in it for the food...
As we're driving home he asks something about "Can I come over to your house?" I wanted to say "No way ever never!" but instead said,"I think you should just take my back to work." So he did. And my boss drove me home, after getting a good laugh and telling me I should never have gone out with him... yeah yeah. In it for the food. Boyfriend was jealous. I got creeped on. The food was great.

the car
so seriously.
people are funny.
husband takes my car, ramona, to work.
we don't lock her because she is such a gem that we don't really have to worry that anyone will steal her.
we should start.
someone put a bag of opened potatoe chips in her last night.
and husbands sister "stole" something out of it the other day.
who leaves a bag of chips open in somebodies car?
ps this isn't husband its lady, i'm just too lazy to sign out of husbands email.
